"Help Load a Bus for Bayonnais, Haiti"

"Charlotte First Presbyterian Church (FPC) has purchased a used school bus that will be loaded (hopefully filled) with bulk rice and beans, as well as badly needed food and hygiene kits.  The bus and its contents will be driven to Florida and shipped to Haiti soon after the worship service on April 11.  OFCB Ministries in the Bayonnais area of Haiti, with which FPC partners closely, will use the donations to provide for local evacuees and members of the community who are unable to afford food and supplies due to skyrocketing prices and scarcity.  Recipients of the aid will be expected to work on a community irrigation project in exchange for the rice and beans and other donated items.  There is also a special request coming from the Haitian residents to pack soccer balls in the bus, so that fearful and traumatized children will have an incentive to come together in soccer games for their mutual support.
If you can participate in this FPC effort to support the Haitian earthquake victims, please prepare kits using the list below as a guideline—don’t forget the need for soccer balls.  Even a card of encouragement for a student disrupted by the disaster would be appreciated.  You may deliver the kits to the church receptionist (in building near Poplar Street) or you may contact Lex Jones (910.690.4300, lexjones@earthlink.net) who will make arrangements to pick-up your donation.  (Please pack donations in reusable or canvas grocery bags.)
