Charlotte – July 24, 2012 – Charlotte B-cycle made possible by BCBSNC is proud to announce that construction of all 20 station docks and 200 bicycles is complete, testing is going well, and we are ready to announce a date for the full system to “go live”.

We will gather 200 riders at the Square on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00pm. Charlotte B-cycle has invited members of City Council, the bike advocacy community and some local celebrities to join us as we ride the bikes to their docks. The system will open for business at 7:00am on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, manned by volunteers to help explain how the system works and encourage usage.

Coverage of both the “Go Live Ride Out” on Tuesday evening and system start on Wednesday morning is welcome.

Charlotte B-cycle made possible by BCBSNC, with Founding Sponsor Carolinas HealthCare System and Communications Sponsor Verizon Wireless is a program of the CCCP Community Trust. It aspires to increase bicycle usage in Charlotte and to decrease vehicle trips, thereby improving health and air quality. Charlotte B-Cycle provides a convenient network of public use bicycles rented at a low cost for short-distance trips.  The system will make biking a more convenient and better integrated part of Charlotte’s transportation system.
