Friends of Fourth Ward Call for Volunteers

Message from our Board Member, Eileen McElroy

As you have probably heard, Charlotte's bike share system is here and ready to go live. I've agreed to serve as a station captain and would like to invite you to be part of my team.

Charlotte B-cycle launched on 7/12/12 as the first bike share system in North Carolina and the largest urban system in the southeast. It is a zero-hassle, zero-emissions way to get around Center City. The network is composed of 200 purpose-built, commuter-style bicycles and 20 high-tech stations which include features to manage access to the bicycle fleet and monitor daily operations.
It's a bike-sharing program that meets the transportation, health, and environmental needs of our communities. It's inexpensive and spontaneous, but also practical. Charlotte B-cycle needs to deploy 200 bikes to the 20 stations and wants to have trained volunteers assisting customers during the first few days of operations. We are inviting you to be part of this effort.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for:
a. Volunteering for a 2 hour shift at the 7th Street station and providing EXCELLENT,proactive customer service to all individuals who inquire. This includes:
i. Answering any questions about the system and station
ii. Assisting with the use ofthe kiosks and assisting with checking bikes in and out via credit card.
iii. Encouraging annual membership sign-ups.
iv. Distributing information brochures.
 v. Tracking any incidents/problems/solutions/outcomes on the Incident Report sheet
b. Riding a bike to the 7th Street Station on Tuesday evening July 31st

As a member of the team, you will receive a Charlotte B-cycle t-shirt and you'll have an opportunity to be part of Charlotte bike history.

The following volunteer shifts are available:
Wednesday August 1: 7-9am, 11am-1pm and 4-6pm
Thursday August 2: 7-9am, 11am-1pm and 4-6pm
Friday August 3: 7-9am, 11am-1pm and 4-6 pm

If you are interested in participating, please email me at eileen@eileenmcelroy.com by Sunday, July 29, 2012.

REMINDER: ADOPT A COP FOR THE DNC
Our CMPD officers will be working at least 12 hour shifts during the DNC this September.  It will be an inordinately stressful environment compounded by our late summer heat.   They will then have to battle traffic to get back to their homes to rest and shower only to be back in time for their next 12 hour plus shift.

FOFW would like to know if any of our neighbors have an extra room or two to allow officers to stay in your home so their already long day doesn't become even longer.  Not only is it a way to help our local officers get rested and refreshed for the next shift of protecting our city, it's a good way to get police presence onto your block and into our neighborhood during this time.

Please contact Chris Connelly by email at cconnelly@ConnellyDefense.com for questions and to get on the list.
