DNC security plan released

The main security plan that will govern uptown traffic and access for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte the first week of September was released Wednesday morning.
It details a range of road closures and checkpoints with a total of 13 center-city streets closed to vehicle traffic and public parking beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, ending Thursday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m. The security perimeter is concentrated around Time Warner Cable Arena, which will be the primary host facility for the DNC events.


The road closures include:
•East Trade Street from North College Street to North Myers Street.
•East Fifth Street from North College Street to North Myers Street.
•East Sixth Street from North College Street to North Alexander Street.
•East Seventh Street from North College Street to North Davidson Street.
•East Eighth Street from North College Street to North Caldwell Street.
•South Brevard Street from East Fourth Street to East Trade Street.
•North Brevard Street from East Fifth Street to East Ninth Street.
•South Caldwell Street from East Fourth Street to East Trade Street.
•North Caldwell Street from East Trade Street to East Ninth Street.
•South Davidson Street from East Fourth Street to East Trade Street.
•North Davidson Street from East Trade Street to East Seventh Street.
•South Alexander Street from East Fourth Street to East Trade Street.
•North Alexander Street from East Trade Street to East Sixth Street.

The Democratic National Convention has been designated as a National Special Security Event by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The security and transportation plans for the convention and its events were developed by a partnership of local, state and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies, the security plan statement says.
